Service

Sage, set up properly and actually explained.

We have a long association with Sage. That experience means we can pick the right package for your business, install it, and train your team so you are running properly from day one.

  • Right package chosen for your business
  • Installation and data migration
  • Training for you and your staff

Choosing the right package

Accounting software is sold on features. Most small businesses use a fraction of them and pay for the rest. The question is not which product is best in the abstract, it is which one fits how you actually work: how many transactions, whether you carry stock, whether you run payroll, whether you need multi-user access, and whether you have anyone in the business who will genuinely keep on top of it.

We will recommend the package that fits — and if that turns out to be a simpler or cheaper option than you expected, we will say so.

Setting it up so it works

The most common reason accounting software fails in a small business is not the software. It is a chart of accounts that does not match the business, opening balances entered wrongly, VAT settings left on the default, and bank feeds that were never reconciled. Once those are wrong, every report is wrong, and people quietly stop trusting the system.

  • Chart of accounts structured around your business
  • Opening balances entered and agreed to your last accounts
  • VAT scheme configured correctly, including flat rate or cash accounting
  • Bank feeds connected and the first reconciliation done with you
  • Customer, supplier and product records imported
  • Migration from spreadsheets or an older system

Training that sticks

We train the person who will actually use it, on your own data, doing the tasks they will genuinely do each week — raising an invoice, recording a payment, running the VAT return, checking who owes you money. Generic training on a demo company is forgotten within a fortnight.

Making Tax Digital readiness

Digital record keeping and compatible software are no longer optional for a growing number of businesses and landlords. Getting your system right now means MTD becomes an administrative detail rather than a crisis. We check compatibility as part of the setup.

We are not locked to one product

Our Sage experience is deep, but we are not a reseller with a quota. We also work day to day with Xero, QuickBooks and FreeAgent, and if one of those fits you better we will say so.

Common questions

Do I need accounting software at all?

If you are VAT registered or within Making Tax Digital, you need digital records and compatible software. Below those thresholds a very small business can still manage on a simple system, but the direction of travel is clear and starting early is easier than migrating under pressure.

Can you move my data from spreadsheets?

Yes. We migrate from spreadsheets, from paper records and from other accounting packages, and we agree the opening balances to your last set of accounts so you start from a position you can trust.

How long does training take?

For a typical small business, a focused half day covers day-to-day use, with a follow-up session once you have had a few weeks of real use and real questions.

Will you support me afterwards?

Yes. Ongoing support is available, and clients who use our bookkeeping service have us in the system alongside them anyway, which tends to sort problems before they become problems.

Is my data safe?

Cloud packages hold your data on the provider’s secure infrastructure with regular backups. We will talk you through access control and who in your business should be able to see and do what — a step that is very often skipped.
